Bench 13 - On Henderson's historic South Lawn sits
many stone benches that were donated by classes, organizations, and other
entities throughout the institutions history. Perhaps the most famous
is Bench 13. The bench is in memorial to the former sponsor of the
"Heart and Key" organization. It is told that when a girl is asked to
marry someone while she is sitting on the bench she won't say no.
The School With A Heart In It - Throughout
Henderson's history, the school has endured many hardships. Shortly
after the fire and the rebuilding process, the president of the college
coined the term "The School With A Heart In It" to use in newspaper ads and
in the recruitment process. Even today, HSU is known as "The School
With A Heart."
